Please reference Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Case #12-14076

On May 10, 2012 at about 11:00 a.m., Owen Gotchall, age 89, crashed his car into the living room of an apartment at The Springs at Clackamas Woods, at 14404 SE Webster Road, Milwaukie, Oregon. Mr. Gotchall lives in that building.

The resident of the apartment, Donald Brownrigg, age 97, was sitting in his recliner by the patio door. The recliner was struck by the car as it crashed through the patio door. His recliner was pushed across the room with him in it.

Mr. Brownrigg complained of minor pain and was transported to a local hospital by a family member.

Mr. Gotchall explained that as he was trying to park, he hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the car to jump the curb and go through the patio door. Witnesses reported he briefly attempted to back out of the building. He was not injured in the crash.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded and determined alcohol was not a factor. Mr. Gotchall was very cooperative and distraught about the crash. A DMV driver re-evaluation request has been submitted.

Clackamas County Fire District #1 also responded to the scene to assist.
