Please reference Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Case #12-19858

At about 2:13 p.m. on July 4, 2012, James Bane, age 62, of Portland, Oregon, called Clackamas County 911 to report that he had become lost while hiking on the Paradise Park trail on Mt. Hood.

The Clackamas County Sheriffs Office Search & Rescue Unit was activated and responded to the area.

Mr. Bane reported that he was an experienced hiker, but on the way back down from the snowline, he had lost the trail.

Mr. Bane reported that he was going to stay put and wait for SAR personnel to assist him.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office SAR unit was assisted by Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, AMR's Reach And Treat (RAT) Team, and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue.

Mr. Bane greatly aided himself and the search personnel by being prepared for the conditions, and even more importantly by staying put until he was found.
