At about 3:57 a.m., Clackamas County 911 was notified of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the 7-Eleven store located at SE 82nd and Otty Road. Deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriffs Office arrived within 1 minute. The suspect had fled the scene.
Deputies reported that the clerk, a 42-year-old male, of Portland, Oregon, had serious facial injuries and requested a medical response. His name is being withheld at this time to allow him to notify family members of the incident. He was transported to OHSU and is currently being evaluated.
A Gladstone Police Department K-9 officer and handler assisted by doing a search for the suspect, but were not successful. Officers from the Milwaukie Police Department also assisted.
Deputies reported that even though the clerk/victim had just been robbed at gunpoint and beaten with a handgun and was bleeding heavily from his face, he started to mop the blood off the floor and tried to help customers.
The suspect stole cash, menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars during the robbery.
The suspect was described as an adult male, early to mid 20s, about 5'6" - 5'8", slender build, wearing a black hoodie jacket, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes. He was armed with an unknown type pistol that he beat the victim with. Statements and video surveillance show the beating was immediate and unprovoked in any way.
There may be an accomplice involved. The only description available is an adult male who had a dog with him.
