On Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Japheth Daniel Stalcup, age 25, of Eagle Creek, for two counts of Aggravated Animal Abuse I and Initiating a False Police Report. This concluded a three-month investigation into the slaying of two family pets that occurred on November 12, 2012 in Eagle Creek, Oregon.
During the initial investigation in November 2012, Japheth Daniel Stalcup reported his two family dogs, Buddy and Duke, had gone missing. He told deputies he had found both dogs dead approximately 100 yards from his house. The dogs had apparently been killed with an axe. Mr. Stalcup alleged he had no idea who had killed his dogs.
On Wednesday, February 6, 2013, following a three-month investigation, Mr. Stalcup confessed to slaying both of his own dogs. Mr. Stalcup confessed that he used an axe to kill the dogs before disposing of their bodies over an embankment behind his property. Mr. Stalcup alleged that he could not afford to care for the dogs any longer and knew of no other alternative.
The Clackamas County Sheriff urges any pet owner who can no longer care for their animals to contact his or her local animal shelter or the Oregon Humane Society -- online or by calling (503) 285-7722.
