On Saturday, March 30 at approximately 10:46 p.m., Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a crash on a Forest Service Road outside Estacada.

It was reported that an open-backed Toyota 4-Runner had rolled over with 7 occupants inside (the driver and six passengers).

Six in the 4-Runner were injured in the crash, including the driver. One of the six injured occupants later died. One passenger walked away from the crash with no reported injuries.

The crash happened in an area with no cell-phone coverage, so the victims were loaded into other vehicles and transported to Hillockburn Road and Hwy. 211 -- where they were met by medical personnel and transported to area hospitals.

One passenger -- Nicholas Portis, 17 years old, from Milwaukie -- ultimately died from his wounds.

The other victims -- whose names are being withheld because they are under 18 years old -- are all being treated at local hospitals. None of the other injuries are life-threatening.

The victims were all part of a large group of teenagers who had been gathering up in the woods throughout the night.

The driver of the vehicle, Joseph Childs, 19, was among those injured in the crash.

The investigation continues; however, it is believed that both alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed yet.
