At about 8 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas Fire District #1 and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to a traffic accident with an injury on S. Springwater Rd. near S. Eaden Rd., in rural Clackamas County.

Danielle Battles, 22, of Estacada, reportedly rear-ended a trailer full of fresh cut Christmas trees at a high rate of speed. The trailer was being pulled by a large farm tractor -- owned by Eby Trees Unlimited -- that was removing the trees from a field so they could be shipped off for sale.

Ms. Battles sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash, and was taken by Life Flight to OHSU for medical care. Ms. Battles' medical condition is unknown at this writing.

The accident is still under investigation. It appears speed and using a mobile communication device are among the leading causes of the crash.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind drivers that using a mobile communication device while driving is not permitted, and drivers can be issued a traffic ticket if caught. Many accidents are caused by driver's attention being diverted by the use of these mobile devices; the Sheriff's Office urges drivers to pull over to a safe place off the roadway before using them.
