At about 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 20th, 2014, an alert citizen observed a package that they thought was suspicious in the Clackamas Town Center.

The citizen notified Clackamas Town Center Security personnel -- who immediately notified police and began to ensure the safety of mall patrons.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies and members of the Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit responded and initiated an investigation.

The suspicious package was rendered safe and was determined not to be a hazard.

Detectives and evidence technicians from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division are currently on scene gathering evidence and information. There have been no conclusions at this time (June 20, 2014, 5:12 p.m.) as to the nature of the item or the intentions of the person or persons who placed that item there.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has a close working relationship with Clackamas Town Center staff and security, and we are continuing to coordinate with them. We appreciate the attention and actions of their personnel.

We encourage anyone locating a suspicious device or seeing suspicious activity to report that promptly to police and to relay as much detailed information about their observations to the dispatcher.
