Please reference Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Case # 14-20772.

At about 2:44 p.m. on July 31, 2014, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Sunnybrook Road east of Interstate 205.

The reports from witnesses were that the motorcycle was traveling at about 100 miles per hour before crashing.

Additionally witnesses reported that the motorcylist who crashed was racing with another motorcycle, which did not remain at the scene.

Sheriff's Office deputies and Happy Valley Police responded until the investigation was taken over by the the Clackamas County Crash Reconstruction and Forensics Team (CRAFT).

Sunnybrook Road was closed (with assistance from the Clackamas County Roads Department) from Sunnyside Road to I-205 for several hours to allow for the investigation to be completed.

The motorcyclist who crashed was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

An autopsy performed determined that the cause of death to the motorcyclist was multiple traumatic injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Robert James Jones, age 38, of Gresham.

Mr. Jones' driving record does not reflect a motorcycle endorsement.

CRAFT continues to conduct their investigation. Actual speeds and other factors in the crash cannot be determined until the investigation has been completed.

The second motorcyclist that was reported to be racing with the deceased has not been identified -- and what culpability the other motorcyclist might have in this crash is not known at this writing.
