UPDATE (Weds., Oct. 22) -- NEW DETAILS AND PARTIAL SUSPECT SKETCH

New details and a partial suspect sketch are now available in the case of an unknown male reportedly attempting to lure a 12-year-old child into his red Toyota truck.

A new PARTIAL sketch of the suspicious male is attached. (The 12-year-old could not recall any details of the suspicious male's nose or eyes, so they've been left off the sketch.) However, here are additional details for the male's description:

  • African-American male
  • Age: 50s to 60s
  • Appeared to be short and heavily built
  • Short, buzz-cut salt-and-pepper hair with a chin beard (no hair over lip)
  • "scratchy smoker's voice"
  • Wearing a black t-shirt

Also, here is a more complete description of the suspicious male's vehicle, taken from the 12-year-old girl's description:

  • 1990s single-cab Toyota pickup truck
  • Partial license plate XQZ-*** (last three digits unknown)
  • Red or "rust color" red
  • The truck may have some rust on it
  • Rear bumper nearly completely covered with bumper stickers -- including "Keep Portland - Weird" and possibly sort of animal-shelter sticker incorporating a design of a blue dog.
  • Diamond shaped "Baby on Board" placard in rear glass cab window
  • Softball-sized dent on the passenger side fender behind the rear wheel

The Happy Valley Police is investigating a report of an unknown male attempting to lure a 12-year-old child into his red Toyota truck with a license plate containing the letters XQZ. Tips are sought.

At 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, the 12-year-old girl was walking to school near the 11400 block of SE Norwood Loop in Happy Valley when an unknown male driving a red Toyota truck reportedly stopped to talk to her.

The male told the girl that her mother was in the hospital and that he was supposed to pick her up.

The girl then grabbed her cell phone and the truck drove away.

The unknown male is described as follows:

  • African-American male
  • Age: 50s
  • Appeared to be short and heavily built
  • Salt-and-pepper grey hair and beard
  • "scratchy smoker's voice"

The suspicious male's vehicle is described as follows;

  • Red Toyota truck
  • Partial license plate XQZ-*** (last three digits unknown)
  • Bumper stickers: "Keep Portland Weird" and "Baby on Board"
