Deputies respond after man found with gunshot wound

News Release from: Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office

Posted: Saturday, April 4, 2015, 8:57 p.m.

At approximately 5:06 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015, deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Damascus Police Department responded to a man with a gunshot wound found in a driveway near SE 242nd Ave. and SE Tillstrom Rd. in Damascus.

The subsequent investigation revealed the wounded man was involved in a verbal argument with his wife prior to walking outside. The wife heard a loud noise, went outside -- and discovered her husband near the house with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his abdomen.

A nearby neighbor responded to assist the man until medical personnel arrived. Personnel from Clackamas County Fire District #1, American Medical Response (AMR), and Gresham Fire Department assisted at the scene. The man was then transported by Life Flight to an area hospital for further treatment.

This incident is being investigated as an attempted suicide, but is still an ongoing investigation. Neither the man's name nor further details will be released at this time.

Three Clackamas County cities -- Damascus, Happy Valley, and Wilsonville -- contract with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office to provide municipal police services.
