K9 Kilo at hospitalJust after 2:30 a.m. this morning (Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015), a 911 call came in describing a male throwing items over a fence and acting in a suspicious manner.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies -- including a deputy and his K9 partner Kilo -- responded to the scene, a State Farm Insurance office on the 13000 block of SE Rusk Road in Milwaukie.

Once on scene, deputies noticed a building with a broken back door -- and saw a suspect moving around inside and trying to hide. Items in the process of being stolen allegedly included a vacuum cleaner, DVDs and jumbo packs of Charmin Ultra-Soft and Kirkland toilet paper, among other items (photos linked above).

After the building was surrounded, deputies called in several times, trying to get the suspect to come out. When there was no response, K9 Kilo went in to try and locate the suspect.

Once inside, Kilo located the suspect right away in an office -- and a struggle ensued. As Kilo pulled on the suspect, the male pulled out a large knife with samurai-sword styling (see photos) and attempted to stab K9 Kilo multiple times, damaging nearby drywall.

Deputies were able to quickly disarm the suspect during the struggle while K9 Kilo was still engaged in the melee.

Kilo was unharmed. The suspect sustained a bite on the arm.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries from the dog bite. He was then taken to the Clackamas County Jail.

The suspect is Timothy Allen Nelson, 37 years old, of Milwaukie. He is currently on parole for burglary. He is now additionally charged with Burglary II, Attempted Assault of a Police Animal, Interference with a Police Animal, and Resisting Arrest. His booking photo is attached, and his full booking information is here.
