EARLIER: Jan. 24, 2016, 12:45 p.m.
On Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at 3:16 a.m. a female called 911 and reported a drowning on the Willamette River near the railroad trestle in Wilsonville.
The woman told dispatchers she ran to a nearby gas station to call 911 and was unsure of the exact location on the river; she estimated the woman had fallen into the river 40 minutes prior to calling 911.
Wilsonville Police and the Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium responded to the location.
Wilsonville Police contacted the 911 caller; police also located a male near the Wilsonville Sand and Gravel plant. The male -- who was with the woman when she fell into the river -- pointed them to the location she was last seen.
The male told police he was with a female friend and his mother. They were walking on an old dock that had holes in some of the boards. While walking on the dock, they all tripped and fell into the river. They were able to swim back to the dock -- but his mother fell again trying to get back onto the dock. She was last seen floating downriver. The male jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue her while the other female ran to get help. When he was unable to locate her, he went to contact emergency responders.
Deputies searched the area down by the dock while water-rescue teams were headed to the area by boat. They located the woman's body floating between the dock and shore. She was pulled into a Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue boat and transported to the Boones Ferry boat ramp where she was pronounced dead.
The male -- 30 years old, of Tigard -- was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The female -- 54 years old, of Wilsonville -- was not injured.
The deceased female was 49 years old, of Wilsonville.
The identities of those involved are not being released at this time pending family notification.
