EARLIER (March 14, 2016, 8:20 p.m.)
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies and Milwaukie Police officers responded to a citizen report of a stolen vehicle on SE Silver Springs Rd. off SE McLoughlin Blvd.
The initial caller reported that a male had attempted to steal his pickup truck while accompanied by a female. The caller had reportedly pulled the suspect out of the driver seat and out of the vehicle -- but a second female suspect moved over to the driver's seat and attempted to drive away, but crashed the victim's pickup into a telephone pole.
Meanwhile, during the victim's altercation with the male suspect outside the car, the suspect reached around his waistband and threatened to shoot the victim. The victim gave chase on foot southbound on McLoughlin Blvd. as the two suspects ran away, but the caller lost sight of the suspects as they ran around a motel structure.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded, and requested the assistance of the Milwaukie Police during a check of the area for the suspects.
Milwaukie Police Officers located at least one individual who matched the description of the suspects -- and then were alerted to a vehicle leaving a car sales lot. Milwaukie Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away. Deputies joined Milwaukie PD in a pursuit.
That pursuit traveled to McLoughlin Blvd. at SE Vineyard Rd. A controlled PIT maneuver to stop the suspect vehicle was attempted near the intersection of McLoughlin Blvd. and Vineyard Rd.
Near the conclusion of the PIT maneuver -- and due to the suspect's continued driving behavior in his attempt to elude -- the suspect caused a Clackamas County deputy's patrol car to crash into the suspect vehicle.
The crash caused minor injuries (complaint of pain) to the deputy, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both the male and female suspects were taken into custody. The male suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Both suspects in the second stolen vehicle matched the description of the suspects from the report of the first stolen vehicle that kicked off the call. Meanwhile, another Clackamas County deputy contacted the owner of the suspect vehicle involved in the chase -- and confirmed that it, too, was stolen.
The Oregon State Police responded to investigate the crash. No names will be released at this time.
Thanks to the victim's quick and accurate report via 911, the capture of the suspects was successful. Additionally, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Milwaukie Police Department and the Oregon State Police for their assistance during the investigation.
