Happy Valley Police get a little help from Lake Oswego Police K9 Szemi

Deputy Newton with Mr. McKernan after he was taken into custodyAt 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017,  Deputy Casey Newton of the Happy Valley Police Department attempted to catch up with a grey Toyota 4-Runner when it quickly turned into the closed Happy Valley business on SE 129th Ave near SE King Rd.

Deputy Newton did a quick check of the license plate and found the vehicle was stolen on 03-29-17 out of Salem, Oregon.

The driver, Wesley Allen McKernan, quickly jumped over a fence into the Happy Valley Nursery and he continued to run away from Deputy Newton ignoring commands to stop.

Clackamas County Deputies arrived on scene, along with Lake Oswego K9 Officer Brandon Clausen and his K9 Szemi.

K9 Szemi located Mr. McKernan hiding in a tree, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Mr. McKernan was taken to the Clackamas County Jail on an outstanding warrant out of Clackamas County for possession of heroin and methamphetamine and also for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Mr. McKernan is also on probation out of Multnomah County for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and eluding police. His completely booking info is here.
