Posted: May 14-15, 2017
UPDATE (Monday, May 15, 2017) -- SUSPECT REMAINS AT HOSPITAL, POSSIBLE BOOKING TODAY; MEDICAL EXAMINER CONDUCTING AUTOPSY ON VICTIM; REFER TO SANDY PD ON SEPARATE THRIFTWAY STABBING CASE
The suspect is in stable condition at the hospital. He is tentatively scheduled to be transported to Clackamas County Jail later today. We will release the suspect's name and booking photo after he is lodged.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy on the victim. We are not releasing that victim's name at this time.
All updates on the separate stabbing incident at the Estacada Thriftway will be provided by Sandy Police. Their news release feed is here.
A reminder to media: The stabbing victim at the Thriftway is NOT the same person as the victim in the Colton death investigation.
EARLIER (Sunday, May 14, 2017, 6:57 p.m.)
On Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 2:14 p.m. there was a 911 call from the Estacada Harvest Market Thriftway (280 S. Broadway, Estacada) reporting that a male had entered the store covered in blood holding a knife and what looked like a human head.
A short time later, another 911 call came in reporting that the male had stabbed a Thriftway employee and was now being held down by other store employees.
Officers from Sandy Police (which contracts police services to Estacada) and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene, arriving at 2:20 p.m.
The male suspect was taken into police custody and later transported to the hospital for unknown injuries.
Please see the press release from Sandy Police for further details on the Thriftway stabbing incident.
Meanwhile, a separate-but-connected investigation began in Colton. On Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 2:35 p.m. there was also a 911 call from the 25000 block of Elwood Rd. in Colton. The caller reported finding a deceased adult female inside a residence.
Deputies responded to the scene, along with officers from the Oregon State Police and Molalla Police. Deputies located one deceased adult female inside a residence.
The Clackamas County Major Crimes Team and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office detectives also responded to the scene.
The incident on Elwood Rd. is still under investigation. This incident is connected to the separate stabbing incident at the Estacada Thriftway.
A clarification: Investigators have determined that the death investigation originally reported by Sandy Police in their news release actually occurred at the Ellwood Rd. location, and is separate from the stabbing incident that occurred in the Estacada Thriftway.
The suspect is in custody, and there is no threat to the public at this time.
No further details can be released at this time.
