Our new K9 Ajax came in handy as Wilsonville Police apprehended a suspect in two shooting incidents.

At about 11:39 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office received a call about a male driving a black sedan that had pulled in front of another car on SW Wilsonville Rd. near SW River View Lane, blocking the road.

The male suspect -- later identified as Daniel Frank, 31 -- got out of his vehicle, produced a firearm, and began shooting at the victim's vehicle.

The victim was able to get away, and drove to a safe location where deputies contracted to Wilsonville Police contacted the victim.

Meanwhile, suspect Daniel Frank got back into his vehicle, continued driving, and once again blocked the road at SW Wilsonville Rd and SW Ladd Hill Rd. Frank reportedly confronted two more cars; the drivers of these vehicles left the location without vehicle damage or injury.

Frank then reportedly began walking east on SW Wilsonville Rd.

Deputies arrived in the area near 16265 SW Wilsonville Rd. to make contact with Frank as he continued to walk east.

Daniel Frank was taken into custody without incident just to the east of this address, and the suspect car was located and cleared at the intersection of SW Wilsonville Rd and SW Ladd Hill Rd. Daniel Frank had walked about half a mile.

Deputies subsequently learned Frank was the suspect in a Nov. 29 shooting near Mystic Gentlemen's Club at 99th and Stark. For more information on this shooting, see the Portland Police Bureau's press release.

Portland Police Bureau officers were contacted and took Frank into custody. However, the gun was not located on Frank or in the car he was driving.

Ajax's handler Deputy Huskisson had Ajax perform an article search, starting at the location where Frank was taken into custody.

Ajax was able to track where Frank had walked, about .20 miles west of where Frank was taken into custody. Ajax then located the firearm about 20-30 feet north of SW Wilsonville Road -- in an orchard of trees where Frank had thrown it.

Portland Police recovered the firearm. Meanwhile, deputies located the scene of the first shooting call at SW Wilsonville Rd. near SW River View Lane, and located 14 empty brass casings in the middle of the road -- consistent with victim statements.

Daniel Frank was lodged in Multnomah County Jail on November 30, 2017 on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon (two counts) and Menacing. His booking info is here. Frank will face additional charges in the Wilsonville incident.

"This was Ajax's first complete patrol shift since the completion of our school last week," said Deputy Huskisson.
