Two Clackamas County deputies are back on patrol after being shot one year ago

Date

Sunday, June 30th marked one year since Deputies Dan Blair and Jeremy McKenna were shot while responding to a burglary in progress call.

We are incredibly grateful and happy to share that after months of recovery, both Deputy Blair and Deputy McKenna are back in uniform and once again patrolling Clackamas County.

On June 30, 2023, deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a business in the area of SE 70th Ave and SE Johnson Creek Blvd in unincorporated Clackamas County. While the deputies were contacting two suspects, both deputies were shot by one of the suspects. Deputy Blair was struck in the arm and Deputy McKenna was stuck in his ballistic vest and abdomen. Other responding deputies rendered aid before they were transported to OHSU. Thankfully both deputies were released that same day.

The two suspects, Tyler J. Scott, age 33 of Portland, and Joseph R. Shaffer, age 47 of Portland, were taken into custody by additional responding deputies.

Scott is still in custody facing charges, including Attempted Aggravated Murder, Attempted Murder, Burglary in the Second Degree, and Theft in the First Degree. Shaffer served time for Theft in the First Degree and a parole violation. Shaffer has since been released from custody.
