UPDATE (August 6, 2025): Sheriff’s Office identifies drowning victim

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the name of the man who drowned on July 27, 2025 in the Clackamas River, near Carver Park. He has been identified as Germain Merilan, age 32 of Gresham. The Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed this was an accidental death due to drowning.

EARLIER (July 28, 2025): Sheriff’s Office responds to drowning at Carver Park

On July 27, 2025, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a marine rescue call on the Clackamas River near Carver Park, located at 14888 S Springwater Avenue in unincorporated Clackamas County. Shortly after 6:45 p.m., a woman reported that her husband had gone underwater near the park and had not resurfaced for 30 minutes.

Members of the Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium, including Clackamas Fire and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to the location to search for the missing person.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., the responding units located and recovered the man’s body.

The name of the victim is not being released pending family notifications.
