Sheriff’s Office responds to drowning on Molalla River

At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Molalla River near Canby Community Park where it was reported that a man had been swimming and went under the water. The Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium was activated and crews from several agencies, including Canby Police and Canby Fire, responded to the location.

After several minutes of being underwater, the victim, identified as Enrique Hernandez-Hernandez, age 24 of Salem, was recovered from the river by other swimmers at the park and taken across the river from the park to the south bank. Emergency personnel performed life-saving efforts, but the swimmer did not survive.

Due to the difficult-to-reach location, a team from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue was activated to help recover the victim.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team is made up of deputies and volunteers from the community who are specially trained to perform search and rescue operations.

The Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium is made up of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas Fire, the Lake Oswego Fire Department, and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
