Cold Cases

There is no statute of limitations on the crime of murder -- and no homicide investigated by the Sheriff's Office is ever closed until it is resolved. Long after the original investigators have retired, these cases may remain open.

Our detectives continue to pursue leads in murders, missing-person cases, and unidentified remains. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office seeks your help in developing new leads and finding new information that can assist in bringing these difficult cases to resolution.

SOLVED: Sheriff's Office makes two arrests in 2009 murder case (Feb. 20, 2020)

Location of Murder: 3624 SE Westview Ave., Milwaukie, OR
Date of Murder: March 20, 2009

Joe HaleyDetails: Mr. Haley shared an apartment with his girlfriend and another male roommate. On the morning of March 20th two unknown suspects knocked on the apartment door. The physical descriptions indicate that both suspects were male. When the male roommate opened the door, the suspects forced their way inside the apartment.

The male roommate and girlfriend were forced to lie on the floor and remained unharmed during the incident. Mr. Haley was shot twice as he was getting out of bed. The two suspects left the apartment without taking anything from the apartment.

UPDATE: The Sheriff's Office made two arrests in this case in February 2020.

2006

Murder | Case #: 2006-36655
Victim: Andrew William Corpe
Suspect: Unknown
Location of Murder: Springwater Trail in the area of SE Johnson Creek Blvd and SE Bell Ave.
Date of Murder: 10/20/2006

Details: Sometime in the hours prior to 8:00am on 10/20/2006, William Andrew Corpe was murdered while traveling down the Springwater Trail in the area of SE Johnson Creek Blvd and SE Bell Ave.

Corpe was last seen alive in the early morning hours of 10/20/07. Corpe was shot several times in the head, and neighbors in the area reported hearing shots at approximately 4 a.m. Corpe's body was discovered dumped in Johnson Creek at approximately 8:30am on 10/20/2006.

2005

Unidentified Human Remains | Case #: 05-11144
Victim: Unknown male; approximate age late teens to 30s; estimated height between 6' and 6'5"
Location Remains Found: Forested area/Tree Property near 24250 S Raney Lane, Estacada
Date Remains Found: March 24, 2005

Details: On the afternoon of March 24, 2005 skeletal remains and clothing of an unidentified male was found in a secluded tree farm/forested area in Estacada, not far from Clear Creek. The location where the remains were located had been clear-cut about two years prior to the discovery of the remains.

Investigators believe the remains had been there for a period of time -- possibly years -- and may have been buried prior to their discovery. Investigators are unable to determine the cause of death, however there is concern foul play may be a factor.

The Sheriff's Office has very limited information available to offer the public related to the discovery of these remains. However, with the release of the clothing information, jewelry and location the body was found, perhaps someone can come forward and provide investigators with a relevant tip.

Location Last Seen: Leaving her residence on SE Fuller Road, walking towards the Ross Center at SE Causey and SE 82nd Avenue
Date Last Seen: April 27, 2004

Details: Olga Valeryevna Ponomareva (DOB 12-01-1982) was reported missing on April 28, 2004. Olga was last seen on the April 27, 2004 at about 4 p.m., leaving her residence on SE Fuller Road walking towards the Ross Center at SE Causey and SE 82nd Avenue. Olga left all her belongings behind at her mother's residence, and has not been seen since.

Olga has no identification, nor did she have a lot of money. According to documents, Olga has not had any activity since 2004.

Victim: Thomas Harold Sperb
DOB: 02-10-1965
Location Last Seen: 47150 SE Clausen Road, Estacada, Oregon -- where he was living with his mother and her husband, Carlene and Larry Manley.
Date Last Seen: Afternoon of Oct. 1, 2000

Details: Thomas Sperb was reported missing on Oct. 19, 2000. Thomas Sperb was last seen on Oct. 1, 2000 by his mother, Carlene Manley as she was leaving for work. Mr. Sperb was on foot near his mother's residence and was reportedly going to a neighbor's house but never made it.

Mr. Sperb left behind his wallet and identification and all other belongings. Foul play is suspected.

Mr. Sperb has not been seen or heard from since Oct. 1, 2000.

Murder | Case #: 99-35789
Victim: Gregory David White
Date/Location Found: In September 1999, Mr. White’s remains were located in the area of Timothy Lake. There was evidence of homicidal violence.

Details: Gregory David White, 34, went camping by himself in May 1998, in the area of Timothy Lake in the Mt. Hood National Forest. 

His burned-out vehicle was found days later, in June 1998. 

In September 1999, Mr. White’s remains were located in the area of Timothy Lake. There was evidence of homicidal violence.

Mr. White lived in his vehicle and was known as a loner, but had family ties to Gresham. At the time of his disappearance and death he worked at Benchmade.

Date Missing: January 16, 1991

Details: Jennifer Delap's family asks for your help in solving this crime.

Jennifer Lynn Delap was reported missing on 1-16-91 from her home in Boring, Oregon. Her body has never been found, and she is presumed to have been murdered.

There is a cash reward of $35,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Murder | Case #: 1975-05637
Victim: Geoffrey Lyman Brown and Leslie Michelle Brown
Suspect: Lynne Brown (a.k.a. Lynne Fortner, Mitzi Brown, Mitzi Fortner). Ms. Brown has an active arrest warrant for the murder of Geoffrey and Leslie. She has been missing since 1975.
Location of Murders: McIver Park, Estacada
Date of Murders:
Feb. 22, 1975

Details: Five-year-old Geoffrey Brown and 7-year-old Leslie Brown were found murdered on March 12, 1975 at 4:45 p.m. Each had been shot twice in the head while lying on a coat in a small clearing in McIver Park, near the City of Estacada.

Geoffrey and Leslie were last seen leaving with their mother, Lynne Brown, for a one-day visit from Lynne's ex-husband's house on Feb. 22, 1975 -- and Lynne Brown has not been seen or heard from since.

Suspect description: Lynne Brown is described as a white female, 5'2" tall and 110 lbs., with brown hair and green eyes. A forensic artist has prepared an aged drawing as Ms. Brown might appear now. A warrant was issued in October 2006 as a result of this Cold Case investigation.

Murder | Case #: 73-9833
Victim: Rita Lorraine Jolly (born Dec. 6, 1955)
Residence: Horton Road, West Linn

Details: On June 29, 1973 at about 7:15 p.m., Rita Jolly left her residence to take a walk. Rita Jolly was last seen in the West Linn area at about 8:30 to 9 p.m. -- possibly in the Robinwood area and/or on Sunset Ave.

Rita Jolly has not been seen or heard of since. Foul play is suspected.

Rita Jolly's description in 1973: 17 years old, 5'6", 130 lbs. with long, light-brown hair. She was last seen wearing a brown Pendleton shirt, army fatigue pants or blue jeans and low-cut blue tennis shoes. She walks with an uneven stride.

Victim: Michael Edward Golleher
Suspect: Unknown
Location of Murder: SE Oatfield and SE Maple, Oak Grove
Date of Murder: April 28, 1973

Details: Sometime before 12:30 a.m. on April 28, 1973, 20-year-old Michael Edward Golleher was shot once in the back at the intersection of SE Oatfield and SE Maple. Neighbors in the area reported hearing gun shots at about 12:15 a.m. A passing motorist witnessed an unknown male standing over Golleher in the intersection. This individual fled the scene when he was illuminated by the motorist's headlights.

Victim Description: Mr. Golleher was described a white male, 5'10" tall, and weighed 160 lbs. with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a brown, red, and green plaid hip jacket; a red, black, and tan plaid shirt; and grey corduroy pants.

Victim: Alma Jean Barra, a.k.a. "Jeannie"

Location of Murder: Willamette National Cemetery, Happy Valley
Date of Murder: March 23, 1972

Details: 28-year-old Alma Barra was last seen leaving the Copper Penny Tavern wearing a white sweater, turtleneck, maroon vest and pants in the company of an unknown male going southbound on 92nd Avenue between 11 and 11:30 p.m. on March 23, 1972.

Ms. Barra's body was found in an area of heavy brush of the Willamette National Cemetery, about 40 feet off of Mount Scott Boulevard.

Victim Description: Ms. Barra was descbribed as being a white female, 5'1" tall, weighing 90 lbs. with shoulder-length red hair, dyed black.

Murder | Case #: 46-22603, 68-8077
Victim: Jane Doe, Approximate age 30-50
Suspect: Unknown
Location Found: Willamette River, in the area of Milwaukie/Oak Grove
Date Found: April 13, 1946

Details: In the early morning hours of April 13, 1946, the fully clothed torso of an unidentified middle-aged female was found floating in the Willamette River near Oak Grove. On April 14, 1946, the torso's arms and legs were located in the Willamette River. On October 13, 1946, the corresponding head was found in the Willamette River in the Oak Grove area.

Investigators determined that the cause of death was a blunt force injury to the head. Her head, arms and legs were then sawn off. The body was then wrapped in feed bags and weighted down with window sash weights.

The victim has never been identified, nor has a suspect been identified.

The victim is described as a Caucasian female with brown and gray hair. She was 40-50 years of age, 5'2"-5'4" in height and roughly 125 lbs.
