Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies helped Oregon City Police capture a suspect found hiding in a trash can in a garage, after the suspect abandoned a vehicle and tried to escape from police in a residential neighborhood.

At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, deputies learned that Oregon City Police officers were pursuing a black Honda Civic driven by Cody Warren Mcalary, 33, of Tigard. A Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy successfully deployed spike strips along Clackamas River Drive, near Springwater Road. After eluding authorities for approximately seven miles, the vehicle came to a stop near Highway 224 and Goosehollow Drive. Mcalary and a female passenger then ran from the scene towards a nearby neighborhood.

OCPD officers reported that Mcalary had entered multiple residences while running from authorities, including a residence on SE Scoria Lane in Damascus.

CCSO deputies responded to the Scoria Lane residence and contacted its residents. After clearing rooms in the home while searching for Mcalary, deputies then entered a garage on the property.

Inside, deputies saw what appeared to be freshly spilled oil on the ground in one corner of the garage, next to a garbage can with a suspicious crease on its side.

A deputy opened the garbage-can lid -- and found Mcalary hiding inside. Deputies took Mcalary into custody without further incident.

Cody Warren Mcalary has multiple felony warrants, and was booked into Clackamas County Jail, where he is being held without bail on charges including Probation Violation (Contempt of Court), Parole Violation, Eluding a Police Officer, Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering.
