UPDATE (Tuesday, Nov. 26, 8:30 p.m.): Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue operations suspended; investigation continues

Today (Tuesday, Nov. 26), after four days of searching in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has suspended search and rescue operations for Susan Lane-Fournier.
Investigators are continuing to gather more details and establish a timeline leading up to her disappearance. This remains an active missing person investigation.
Based on weather conditions and the likelihood of survivability, the decision was made to suspend operations after all four volunteer search teams returned from the field.
From Saturday through Tuesday, dozens of search volunteers, drone teams, and air-scent and trailing K9s spent more than 800 search hours looking for Ms. Lane-Fournier. While search and rescue operations have concluded, the case remains open.
Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who saw Susan Lane-Fournier before her disappearance or who has information about her whereabouts the week leading up to her disappearance.
Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jim White is leading the ongoing investigation.

EARLIER (Monday, Nov. 25, 5 p.m.) -- Photos, search update
Thirty-seven searchers deployed into the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness today (Nov. 25) as the search continues for Ms. Lane-Fournier. Volunteers from CSAR, PMR, PNWSAR, and Mountain Wave were among the ground-searchers in the field. Also participating in the effort were two U.S. Forest Service snowmobilers and drone teams from CCSO and PNWSAR.
Sheriff's Office SAR Coordinators estimate that searchers covered over 100 miles of trail today. The search is ongoing at this writing, with three ground teams still in the field. We will continue to search until nightfall, with plans to resume searching Tuesday morning (Nov. 26).

EARLIER (Nov. 24, 2024): Sheriff's Office continues searching for missing hiker in the Mt. Hood National Forest near Welches

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for 61-year-old Susan Lane-Fournier, a Brightwood resident reported missing after failing to show up to her place of employment. She is believed to be hiking with her two large Malinois-mix dogs in the Green Canyon Way Trail area south of Welches.
Deputies unsuccessfully attempted to locate Ms. Lane-Fournier at her residence on November 22 after her employer reported that she had missed work. The next day, a community member reported seeing Susan’s white 1992 Ford F-250 parked along E. Salmon River Road near the Green Canyon Way Trail south of Welches. This discovery prompted Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue deputies to mobilize volunteers with Clackamas Search and Rescue (CSAR) to assist in searching for Ms. Lane-Fournier.
Search efforts continued into today (Nov. 24), with additional volunteer resources from Portland Mountain Rescue (PMR), Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue (PNWSAR). The search has involved two trailing K9 teams and over two dozen ground searchers.
Search efforts will resume tomorrow morning (Monday, Nov. 25), with more resources and personnel scheduled to assist. Deputies remain in communication with Ms. Lane-Fournier’s family as search efforts continue.
Ms. Lane-Fournier, who also goes by the name “Phoenix,” is 61 years old, stands 5'2", weighs 150 pounds, and has reddish-brown hair. Although she is familiar with the area, it is not known if Ms. Lane-Fournier was prepared to stay out overnight. Temperatures in the area have dropped into the 30s with light rain.
