Suspect Dies After Crashing into Tree in Wilsonville

Date

On Sunday, June 25, 2023, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies serving the City of Wilsonville, observed a black BMW sedan speeding in excess of 100 mph on southbound I-5 near SW Boeckman Road. Deputies attempted to pull over the speeding vehicle, which was “blacked out,” meaning it had no lights on.

The driver took the next exit headed westbound onto SW Wilsonville Road when they crashed into a tree at SW Brown Road, less than a mile from I-5. The car quickly became engulfed in flames and deputies attempted to extinguish the fire, but the driver, the only person in the car, did not survive. Emergency medical services responded to the crash location and extinguished the fire.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the cause and circumstances surrounding this fatal crash. At this time, we are unable to confirm the identity of the driver. We would like to thank Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and AMR for their assistance.
