June 22 retail-theft operation leads to 22 arrests

Date

On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office led a retail theft operation at multiple retailers in the area of SE 82nd Ave and SE Johnson Creek Blvd.

The all-day mission included Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives, including one from the Milwaukie Police Department. The mission resulted in the arrests of 22 people on multiple charges and the recovery of more than $3,000 in stolen merchandise. Deputies were also able to clear 13 arrest warrants, make two arrests for probation violations, and recovered three stolen vehicles.

The Sheriff’s Office worked closely with loss prevention officers at participating retailers, including Fred Meyer and Walgreens. Stolen items ranged from food and clothes, to tools and cosmetics. While the missing focused on the Fred Meyer and Walgreens locations, our team responded to other shoplifting and theft calls in the area, resulting in more arrests.

In one case, deputies were able to uncover a suspect committing aggravated identity theft where they were found in possession of personally identifying information, including checks, EBT cards, money orders, identifications, and passports of more than ten different people.

In another case, detectives were able to arrest members believed to be involved in organized retail crime group targeting Burlington Coat Factory stores in both Oregon and Washington.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office conducts these shoplifting details on a regular basis to help deter the continuing issue of retail theft in our communities. Here is more information on our previous missions: Feb. 24Jan. 18Dec. 6, and Oct. 27.
