Sewage leak into Mt. Scott Creek stopped; public advised to avoid contact with creek water for 48 hours

On Friday, August 12, Clackamas Water Environment Services (WES) personnel responded to a notice about a leaking sewer line in Mt. Scott Creek at SE 97th Avenue near Sunnybrook Boulevard.

Working all day and night, WES crews were able to stop the leak by 6 a.m., August 13. WES personnel have stabilized the area immediately around the leak and have begun cleaning up the area.

There is impact to Mt. Scott Creek in the immediate area and downstream. As a precaution, the public is advised to avoid contact with Mt. Scott Creek water for 48 hours due to the possibility of bacterial contamination.

WES personnel placed signs informing area residents about the spill in the vicinity of the incident. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has been notified.
