Clackamas County records five homicides in 2022

Clackamas County recorded five homicides during 2022. The homicides represent four incidents of homicidal violence as two of the victims were killed in a single incident.  One homicide remains unsolved, another resulted in a murder-suicide and the remaining three homicides resulted in arrests and grand jury indictments:

  • A Clackamas County grand jury indicted Cesar Farfan-Martinez, age 28 of Milwaukie, for the Murder in the Second Degree of John Barnett, age 60 of Vancouver, WA on May 22, 2022.  The murder occurred at Mr. Barnett’s place of employment in Clackamas. The cause of death was multiple stab wounds.  
  • A Clackamas County grand jury indicted Kaythan Tenry, age 19 of Portland and Frank Nifron, age 24 of Kelso, WA for the Murder in the Second Degree of Jamal Nash, age 32 of Portland and Stanafurd Blacknall, age 42 of Portland on Oct. 12, 2022. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. 
  • Shad Bruns, age 49, murdered his wife Michelle Calonge, age 54 at their home in Canby on Sept. 25, 2022. The cause of death was by gunshot. Mr. Burns committed suicide shortly after he murdered his wife. 
  • Ricky Cotton, age 38, of Clackamas was the victim of a fatal gunshot wound in Clackamas on Feb. 27, 2022. The case remains unsolved. The homicide is being investigated by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
