Molalla City Councilor Rae Lynn Botsford indicted for theft from middle school parents' group

Date

Molalla City Councilor Rae Lynn Botsford was arraigned Thursday in Clackamas County Circuit Court on a 24-count indictment alleging theft from the Molalla River Middle School Parent Action Committee.

The May 2 grand jury indictment charged Botsford with 11 counts of Aggravated Identity Theft, 11 counts of Theft in the First Degree, one count of Identity Theft – all felonies – and one count of Falsifying business records, a misdemeanor.

Botsford, 49, served as treasurer of the middle school’s Parent Action Committee for several years. She had a debit card for the organization’s bank account and was responsible for submitting financial reports to the board.

Between March 2022 and April 2024, Botsford is alleged to have used the debit card for more than 180 unauthorized transactions, including cash withdrawals from ATMs at restaurants, as well as out-of-town and out-of-state expenditures.

Botsford resigned as Molalla River Middle School PAC treasurer in the summer of 2024. A subsequent review of the financial records discovered questionable transactions.

Botsford has served on the Molalla City Council since January 2023.

Her next court appearance is July 1, 2025 at 10 a.m.

Deputy District Attorney John Millar is prosecuting the case.
