Man accused of setting church fire charged with arson

OREGON CITY, Or. -- A 20-year-old Hubbard man accused of setting fire to a church was arraigned Monday on arson and other charges in Clackamas County Circuit Court.

Malachi Samuel Kercher is being held at the Clackamas County Jail. His bail is set at $200,000.

Kercher is charged with Arson in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree.

Kercher is accused of breaking into the Zion Mennonite Church, 6124 S. Whiskey Hill Drive, on the evening of Aug. 2 and setting a fire inside the building.

Firefighting crews and multiple law enforcement units responded to the scene where Kercher was taken into custody.
