OREGON CITY, Or. -- A Clackamas County jury found a Gresham man guilty Monday of kidnapping and raping two women.
Julio Cesar Escamilla-Ramos, 31, was convicted in Clackamas County Circuit Court on two counts of Kidnapping in the First Degree, two counts of Rape in the First Degree, two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, two counts of Sexual abuse in the Second Degree and Sodomy in the First Degree.
Escamilla-Ramos will be sentenced on September 29.
The crimes occurred in 2023 and involve two separate incidents.
In August 2023, a 38-year-old woman was walking home from an event in Molalla when Escamilla-Ramos offered her a ride. Escamilla-Ramos began driving in the opposite direction of her destination and would not let her out of his car.
He took the woman to a remote location, raped her and left her there.
The second incident involved a 22-year-old woman who had dated Escamilla-Ramos. They attended a party and Escamilla-Ramos purchased approximately $300 worth of clothing for the woman to wear to the party.
When he drove her home, he demanded she have sex with him in return for the clothing he bought her. When she resisted his advances, he raped and sexually abused her. When she screamed for help, Escamilla-Ramos drove away with the woman in his car. When she tried to exit the car and he grabbed her arm and told her “You’re not going anywhere," according to investigators.
Eventually, the woman opened the door, escaped and ran. She returned home and Escamilla-Ramos pursued her.
Her family called 911 and detained Escamilla-Ramos until the police arrived and arrested him.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Rusty Amos and Deputy District Attorney Josh Cutino prosecuted the case.
