OREGON CITY, Or. -- A 26-year-old man who ran a red light and caused a fatal car crash on Aug. 31 was arraigned Wednesday in Clackamas County Circuit Court on manslaughter and other charges.
Austin Richard Jones of Northeast Portland was charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree, two counts of Assault in the Third Degree, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
Jones was arrested after he sped through a red light at an estimated 50 miles per hour on Southeast Milport Road. Jones’ 2013 Chrysler 200 LX collided with a 2011 Infiniti EX3 southbound on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard.
The driver of the Infiniti, Donald Wesley Brown, 90, of Oak Grove and his wife, Margaret Crain Brown, 82 were injured as were Jones and his passenger, Makayla Jean Keegan, 28, of Molalla. All four individuals were transported to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital where Margaret Brown died. Keegan and Donald Brown were hospitalized and have been released.
Jones is being held at the Clackamas County Jail. His bail is $500,000. His trial is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2026.
In May, Jones was charged in Multnomah County Circuit Court with Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Methamphetamine. He is awaiting trial in that case.
