This year is special for Oregon. With the passage of House Bill 4005 by the Oregon Legislative Assembly, we are celebrating our first Water Professionals Appreciation Week.
From Saturday, October 3 to Sunday, October 11, this week is dedicated to recognizing the important work of local water, wastewater, and stormwater professionals. The people who protect public health and support the vitality of our communities, natural environment, and economy.
Who are the Water Professionals at Clackamas Water Environment Services?
It takes many skilled people in different roles to keep our water services reliable. Here are some of the roles that make this work possible:
- Wastewater Plant Operators
- Field Technicians
- Maintenance and Electrical Trades Professionals
- Scientists – Laboratory Analysts, Chemists, Water Quality Specialists

Why This Week Matters
Water utilities are the backbone of our daily lives. Without them, businesses, hospitals, fire departments, and even our homes could not function.
This new recognition is more than just a way to say, "thank you." It is also meant to inspire young people in Oregon to consider meaningful careers in public water and wastewater management.
