Tacoma man caught in Milwaukie police sting pleads guilty to prostitution, weapons charges

DA sealOREGON CITY, Or. -- A Tacoma, Wash., man who was caught in a police sting last year pleaded guilty in Clackamas County Circuit Court to prostitution and weapons charges on Tuesday.

Marquese Marchand Sykes, 29, will be sentenced on Aug. 14 for Promoting Prostitution and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

Sykes was cited on March 28, 2024, by Milwaukie police officers who were conducting in an interagency mission targeting human trafficking. Decoy officers posed as both sellers of sex and purchasers of sex on popular online dating sites and applications.

Sykes arrived at a Milwaukie residence with a woman after agreeing that a woman would provide sexual services in return for $400.

Police found a firearm and $10,000 in cash inside Syke’s vehicle. Sykes and the woman each claimed to own the money.

Jalen Alexander Frazier, 25 of Portland, was cited for Promoting Prostitution during the same undercover mission.

Frazier was later charged with multiple counts of Promoting Prostitution and Tampering with Physical Evidence in a separate Clackamas County Circuit Court case.

Frazier pleaded guilty in November to one count of Promoting Prostitution and was sentenced to 40 months in prison. All other charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Rusty Amos prosecuted the Sykes case. Deputy District Attorney Bill Stewart prosecuted the Frazier cases.
