OREGON CITY, Or. -- A handyman was sentenced Monday to 30 months in prison for stealing a $44,000 Rolex watch while he was working at a Lake Oswego residence.
Mickal Ivan Reutov, 34, attended the Clackamas County Circuit Court sentencing via video from the Oregon State Penitentiary where he is serving a 26-month sentence.
The Lake Oswego theft occurred in May 2024. The homeowner did not immediately report the theft. Instead, the homeowner negotiated with Reutov. Although he didn’t admit to stealing the watch, Reutov said he knew where the watch was and would try to buy it back if the homeowner didn’t contact the police.
After a few weeks of fruitless back-and-forth dealing, the homeowner concluded Reutov was not sincere and reported the theft to the Lake Oswego Police Department.
By then, Reutov had disappeared. In August 2024, he was arrested and charged with burglarizing a residence in Marion County. Two weeks later, he pleaded guilty to Burglary in the First Degree and was sent to prison.
The Clackamas County sentence runs concurrently with the Marion County sentence and extends Reutov’s time in prison sentence by about 18 months.
The victim did not attend the sentencing. Deputy District Attorney Josh Cutino read the victim’s statement Monday. In part, the victim said:
“When you stole from me, you didn’t just take an object. You took away my sense of safety in my own home — the place I was creating as a haven for myself and my children. Since that day, I’ve lived with anxiety and unease. It has taken over a year of hard work to begin healing. What you took was not just an object; it was something given to me, something irreplaceable.”
Reutov has prior convictions for identity theft, assault and DUII.
Deputy District Attorney Tiffany Escover prosecuted the case.
