OREGON CITY, Or. -- A 71-year-old Sandy man convicted of sexually abusing a girl for several years was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Tuesday.

A jury found Gregory Lee Westfall guilty in June on five counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and two counts of Sodomy in the First Degree after a four-day trial in Clackamas County Circuit Court.

Westfall’s motion for a new trial was denied by Circuit Judge Ulanda Watkins on Tuesday.

The girl, now 20, reported that the abuse began when she was around seven years old and recalled that it happened between five or six times before she reached the age of 12. The victim, now 20, disclosed the abuse to a family member when she was 17.

Westfall denied abusing the girl and argued that a family friend may have been responsible.

The sodomy convictions are subject to Jessica’s Law, an Oregon law that requires a 25-year mandatory minimum sentence for adults who are convicted of raping, sodomizing or sexually penetrating a child under the age of 12 years old.

Clackamas County Deputy District Attorney Torrey McConnell prosecuted the case.
