OREGON CITY, Or. -- A Molalla man who committed a series of crimes, including robbery, vehicle theft, identity theft and fleeing the scene of an injury accident he caused was sentenced in Clackamas County Circuit Court to 113 months in prison.
The sentence imposed on Alex James Raphun, 31, involves three separate cases.
In March 2023, Raphun was driving a stolen car when a police officer attempted to stop him. Raphun sped away, abandoned the car on Interstate 205 and fled on foot. Raphun also was in possession of identification belonging to other individuals.
A jury convicted Raphun earlier this year of Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, Identity Theft, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering another Person and two counts of Attempting to Elude a Police Officer. He was sentenced to 43 months in prison. (Clackamas County Circuit Court case 23CR11863)
At the time of his conviction, Raphun had been charged in two other cases. On Friday, he entered guilty pleas in both cases.
In May 2023, Raphun was arrested and charged with robbing a Happy Valley deli, taking $450 in cash at gunpoint using a weapon that turned out to be a toy gun. Raphun also stole a woman’s purse and fled on a scooter. Raphun pled guilty to Robbery in the Second Degree and was sentenced to 70 months in prison. (Clackamas County Circuit Court case 24CR30453)
In June 2022, Raphun sideswiped two parked cars in Milwaukie, injuring one person. A witness asked Raphun to call 911. Raphun said the call was unnecessary and walked away. Police searched his backpack and found checks made out to other individuals, blank checks that had been reported stolen and a pawn slip and a debit card belonging to others.
Raphun pled guilty to Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver to an Injured Person and two counts of Identity Theft. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison, which runs concurrently with his other sentences. (Clackamas County Circuit Court case 24CR00538)
Raphun has a lengthy criminal history that includes convictions for theft, burglary, identity theft, forgery and drug crimes.
Deputy District Attorneys Jeremy Morrow and Baily Tarabochia prosecuted all three cases.
