A Community Celebration: Shaping the Future of the Sunrise Corridor

Date

On a fall evening in October at the Sunrise Water Authority, community members, volunteers, and local leaders came together to celebrate something special — a shared vision for the future of the Sunrise Corridor.

The celebration marked a milestone for the Sunrise Corridor Community Vision Project — a two-year, community-driven effort that brought together residents, local governments, and regional partners to imagine how this growing area north of the Clackamas River, east of I-205, and west of 172nd Avenue can thrive in the years ahead. What began as a series of listening sessions and workshops has evolved into a shared vision for how people want their neighborhoods, transportation systems, and open spaces to take shape.

Throughout the evening, guests heard from community members who helped lead the work, including Mishayla Richardson, a volunteer with the Sunrise Corridor Leadership Group.

“It’s been amazing to be part of something that truly listens to the community,” Richardson said. “Everyone’s voice matters here. You can see the pride people have in shaping what this area will become — not just for today, but for the next generation.”

The celebration was both a reflection and a launchpad — a moment to look back on what’s been accomplished and to look ahead to what comes next. As the project enters the Coalition Building Phase, the focus turns toward action: implementing projects, strengthening partnerships, and keeping the same spirit of collaboration alive.

The energy in the room made it clear — this vision belongs to everyone.
