OREGON CITY, Or. -- A 19-year-old Sandy man who stabbed his mother’s boyfriend in the neck was sentenced Dec. 15 to 90 months in prison, the maximum sentence allowed under Oregon law.
Ruben Charles Estanislao Garcia pled guilty in Clackamas County Circuit Court to Assault in the Second Degree.
On Aug. 7, 2025, around 7:30 p.m., Garcia’s mother called her 45-year-old boyfriend and asked for his assistance because she was concerned about Garcia’s aggressive behavior.
As the man approached the front door of the house, Garcia confronted him with a knife and made several downward stabs toward the man’s neck. The victim was able to push Garcia away.
When Sandy Police officers arrived, they found the victim on the front porch covered in blood, holding a towel on the left side of his neck and beginning to lose consciousness. An officer noted a roughly 1½-inch puncture on his neck, near his jugular vein and saw blood rapidly flowing from the wound.
As the officers began emergency medical aid, Garcia rushed out of the house, moving aggressively toward them.
Garcia was subdued and taken into custody. The victim was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office acknowledges the work of Sandy Police Department Sergeant Jason Coates on this case.
Deputy District Attorney Josh Cutino prosecuted the case.
