OREGON CITY, Or. -- A Gladstone man who was fired from his job last summer and threatened to kill his former supervisor was sentenced Jan. 9 in Clackamas County Circuit Court to 15 days in jail and 18 months of unsupervised probation.

In response to the threats from Joshua Michael Coughlin, his former employer, Warn Industries, closed its Clackamas warehouse at 12900 SE Capps Road, for two days in late July, idling 200 workers.

Coughlin, 47, pled guilty to Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree. A charge of Telephonic Harassment was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Coughlin had been employed as a forklift driver for about two months when he missed two days of work for reasons related to alcohol use and did not notify the company.

When the company’s safety manager contacted Coughlin, he became erratic and aggressive. Coughlin was fired and began threatening, via phone, text and email, to harm or kill certain company employees. Those threats led to the warehouse closure.

Coughlin sent one employee a photo of her and her young child obtained from social media and included a message: "You feel safe now."

Coughlin also was required to perform 40 hours of community service and to stay at least 500 feet away from the Warn Industries building and its employees.

Deputy District Attorney Emily Korte prosecuted the case.
