A Community Event on May 21 at Centennial Park
Clackamas County is hosting a free outdoor community event in Damascus this spring — and we want you there.
On Thursday, May 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., join county staff at Centennial Park for Connecting Damascus: Roads, Routes & Safety, an open-house style evening designed to help residents better understand what the county is doing on local roads, what's planned for the future, and how you can have a say in it.
Free food and drinks are on us. Bow and Arrow Coffee and Kona Ice will be on site — our way of saying thank you for showing up and staying engaged.
What to Expect
This is a drop-in event — no presentations, no formal program. Just show up, grab a coffee or hot cocoa or a snow cone, and walk through informational stations staffed by county subject-matter experts. Bring your questions. Staff will be there to answer them.
What You'll Learn About
Damascus Roads — Maintenance, Paving & What's Coming Next
County staff from the Department of Transportation and Development will be on hand to talk about current road conditions, ongoing maintenance, and planned improvements in Damascus.
There's also an important update about the future of local road maintenance that every Damascus resident should know about. When the City of Damascus disincorporated in 2017, the State of Oregon created a 10-year funding program — the Damascus Road Fund — to help Clackamas County maintain certain roads within the former city's boundary. That fund expires in early 2027.
Over the past decade, these dollars have allowed the county to maintain roads that were never formally accepted into the county system because they don't meet county construction, drainage, or safety standards. As the program winds down, the county is making a final one-time investment in 51 local access roads — sealing, patching, paving, or performing gravel maintenance on each one before responsibility returns to local property owners. This work will be completed by the end of 2026.
This level of investment is unique to Damascus and is not happening elsewhere in unincorporated Clackamas County. Come learn what this means for your road and your neighborhood.
Transportation System Plan (TSP) — We Need Your Input
Clackamas County is updating its Transportation System Plan for unincorporated county areas, and Damascus residents' voices matter. About every ten years, the county reviews progress made on transportation improvements and charts a course for the future, looking at how people and goods move through the county, where people live and work, and what changes may be needed by 2045. This is your chance to share what transportation improvements matter most to you.
Sunrise Corridor and Sunrise Community Coalition
Learn about the Sunrise Gateway Corridor infrastructure project and what it could mean for connectivity and mobility in and around Damascus. Also, learn about how you can become involved in making the Sunrise Corridor area a more vibrant and livable area. Projects in the Vision Plan include neighborhood beautification, economic development, environmental stewardship, and transportation improvements.
Road Safety & Speed Management
County staff will share information about road safety initiatives and speed management efforts — and what the county is doing to make travel safer for everyone.
Come As You Are, Stay as Long as You Like
The event runs from 6-8 p.m. with a drop-in format, so you can stay for five minutes or two hours. All are welcome.
We hope to see you there.
