What to expect
County staff will provide information about the criteria for establishing a moratorium. The staff presentation will focus on those criteria. Staff will not propose changes to county code related to data centers during these hearings. If the Board adopts a moratorium, public input received during the hearings could help inform the Board's consideration of future code changes.
About data centers
Data centers are facilities that house computer systems and related equipment used to store, process, and manage digital information. The growth of artificial intelligence and cloud computing is contributing to increased data center development nationwide. Data centers can involve considerations related to land use, energy, water, infrastructure, noise, and other factors. The National Association of Counties (NACo) has developed an informational resource for county officials that provides an overview of data center development and topics counties may consider as they evaluate local regulations.
