County Commissioner Appointment Process

The Board of County Commissioners is in the process to fill the vacancy for County Commissioner, Position 4. The application period has closed.

Candidate Review Timeline

  • Wednesday, April 9 – Application period closes
  • Monday, April 14 – Full packet available for BCC
    • BCC will have 2 weeks to review materials
  • Thursday, April 24 – BCC discussion to narrow down the poll to the Top 5 candidates (packet)
    • Staff to contact top 5 to invite them to interviews on Friday, May 16
  • Thursday, May 15 – Public comment accepted in written form, via BCCMail, until 6 p.m. on May 15
  • Friday, May 16 – Public interviews
    • Each candidate will participate in a 45-minute for each of the interviewees (3 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon)
    • Interviews will be held in the BCC Hearing Room
    • Interviews will be open to the public for observation via in person and Zoom
    • Public comment will be accepted in written form, via BCCMail, up until 6pm on May 16
  • Monday, May 19 – Public interviews, BCC deliberation and final decision
    • Starting at 8 a.m.
    • Each candidate will participate in an individual interview in front of the Board
    • Interviews held in the BCC Hearing Room, open to the public for observation in person and via Zoom
    • A decision is expected, session to end by 2 p.m.

Qualifications and Criteria

In order to serve as a County Commissioner in Oregon, by state statute, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a current Clackamas County resident who has resided in Clackamas County for a minimum of the previous 12 months prior to election
  • Must be registered to vote in Clackamas County

The Board may choose to consider the following additional criteria in the selection process:

  • Geographic area of residence
  • Prior elected experience
  • Prior community service
  • Plan to run, or not, in the next election for this seat
  • Years of community service and why types of community service
  • Specific expertise in issue/policy areas
