Circulation

The Law Library seeks to ensure materials in its collection are available for use on the premises. The Law Library is primarily a legal reference (non-circulating) library.

Although non-attorneys are not permitted to check out materials, they are welcome to use all of the Law Library resources and materials to perform legal research during regular business hours.

Print
The Law Library has a carefully balanced collection of local, state and federal books, other materials, and resources accessible in both print and through online subscriptions.

  • Collection includes print and electronic materials
  • Oregon and federal primary and secondary books and access online
  • Oregon, California and Washington practice materials
  • Wide selection of legal texts and treatises
  • Oregon law reviews in print and access to others online
  • ORS from 1953, Oregon Laws from 1845 and OARs from 1980 in print
  • Oregon legislative history materials in print, microfiche and microfilm
  • Clackamas County Bar Association Newsletter

Clackamas County attorneys can check out materials that have a call number for up to 10 business days.

  • Internet access for legal research purposes
  • Lexis/Nexis, including Shepard's
  • Westlaw, including Keycite
  • Oregon Judicial Information Network (OJCIN)
  • All OSB CLE deskbooks
  • OSB and OLI CLE program handbooks with audiocassettes, compact discs or DVDs available to check out for credit

5 computer terminals are available at no cost for performing legal research. Results retrieved using Lexis can be directly emailed or faxed from the terminal at no cost. Attorneys may request by telephone or email up to ten citations per day to be emailed or faxed from Law Library staff.

Forms

Law Library staff can assist patrons with locating sample forms for use in helping them draft their own documents. Law Library staff can also assist with locating other forms. 

Legal Research Assistance

Law Library staff members are available to provide both computer and traditional legal research assistance during all regular business hours. Legal research assistance requests may be made in person, by email, through Ask A Law Librarian or telephone.

Services

Conference Rooms
The Holman Law Center has three rooms available for conferences, meetings, reading, arbitrations, depositions, etc. Reservations can be scheduled in advance or the rooms may be used on a first-come, first-served basis.

Copy/Print/Email Billing
The Law Library has a self-service photocopy machine. Copies are 20¢ each.

Citation Requests
Attorneys can request up to ten citations per day by telephone or email. Requests will be e-mailed or faxed within 24 hours.

After-Hours Access
Clackamas attorneys may apply for an after-hours access cardkey that will allow entry to the Law Library beyond regular business hours.
