Oregon has closed party primary elections.

Major political parties in Oregon hold primary elections to choose candidates to represent them in general elections. Oregon law allows major political parties to decide whether to hold open or closed primary elections 90 days before the election.

The two major political parties (Democratic Party and Republican Party) are holding closed party primary elections. Only voters registered with the major party holding the primary election can participate in its primary election.  If you wish to participate in the major party nominating process and vote for either the Democratic or Republican Party candidates in the May 19, 2026 Primary Election, you must register with one of the two parties by the Voter Registration and Party Choice Deadline on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. You can update or choose a political party at the Secretary of State website oregonvotes.gov or with a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card by the deadline. All voters will have nonpartisan contests and measures on their ballot.
