Oregon

Ready. Set. VOTE!

A Voter’s Guide to the May 19, 2026 Primary Election

Clackamas County Clerk and Elections conducts federal, state, and local elections for all voters living in Clackamas County. There will be a gubernatorial primary election held on May 19, 2026. It includes local and state measures as well as local, state, and federal candidates. Where you live determines what is on your ballot.

We invite you to Get Ready, Get Set, and VOTE!

Register to vote or update your voter registration information

Qualifications to be a voter in Oregon:

You can register to vote if you are a resident of Oregon, a citizen of the United States, and you are at least 16 years old. You will get your first ballot in the mail when you are at least 18 years old.

Register to vote: The Voter Registration and Party Choice Deadline is April 28, 2026.

  • Register to vote online at the Oregon Secretary of State website oregonvotes.gov. You can use your Oregon driver's license, identification card, or the last four digits of your Social Security Number to sign up online. The deadline to register to vote online is April 28, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
  • Register to vote by filling out a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card. You can get a paper form at the Clackamas County Elections office, your public library, Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office, or post office. Your paper form must be returned to the elections office or mailed with a postmark no later than April 28. The United States Postal Service (USPS) postmark no longer reflects the actual date your mail was sent. If you are mailing your Oregon Voter Registration Card close to the Voter Registration and Party Choice Deadline, you should take it to the counter at a local post office and request that the postmark be applied by hand. If you are unable to do that, we recommend that you mail your paper form back a week before the deadline or visit the Clackamas County Elections office in person to return your paper form.
  • Register to vote in person. Clackamas County Elections is open Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.  The office will also be open until 7 p.m. on the Voter Registration and Party Choice Deadline, Tuesday, April 28.

Contact Clackamas County Elections for assistance with your voter registration.

Oregon has closed party primary elections

Major political parties in Oregon hold primary elections to choose candidates to represent them in general elections. Oregon law allows major political parties to decide whether to hold open or closed primary elections 90 days before the election.

The two major political parties (Democratic Party and Republican Party) are holding closed party primary elections. Only voters registered with the major party holding the primary election can participate in its primary election.  If you wish to participate in the major party nominating process and vote for either the Democratic or Republican Party candidates in the May 2026 Primary, you must register with one of the two parties by the Voter Registration and Party Choice Deadline on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. You can update or choose a political party at the Secretary of State website oregonvotes.gov or with a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card by the deadline.
