Our philosophy is that risk management must be an integral part of county culture - an intrinsic value rather than a priority that can shift on a daily basis. The county's goal is to provide a safe, secure and healthful environment for its employees, both on and off the job. We also work in partnership with county departments to preserve and protect the assets of the county from accidental loss at the most economical cost.
The management and control of the county's risk management program is a function of the Risk and Safety Division, within Human Resources. The county has elected to retain exposure to loss primarily through a program of self-insurance. The primary areas managed through this program are: liability, workers' compensation, vehicles and unemployment claims administration, loss control services, insurance, and contracts.
Strong collaboration between the safety and wellness areas provides a safer and healthier environment for county employees. Our comprehensive and progressive safety program works in partnership with a diverse wellness effort to focus on the well-being of the whole person at home as well as at work.
