OREGON CITY, Or. -- A former Fred Meyer employee who stole more than $60,000 from the retailer pleaded guilty to theft on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Rainbow Melodi Stammet, of Oregon City, pleaded guilty in Clackamas County Circuit Court to two counts of Aggravated Theft in The First Degree and one count of Theft in The First Degree. Other theft charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. She will be sentenced on Aug. 4, 2025.
Stammet, 43, worked for Fred Meyer for about two years when the retailer’s loss prevention officers noticed her taking cash from a self-checkout station at the Oregon City store in March 2023.
When confronted, Stammet told an Oregon City police officer that she stole the money to support her gambling habit, spending some of the cash at a local video poker outlet. She said she spent all the money.
Fred Meyer officials told investigators they could not determine the total amount of the loss and noted that the thefts occurred between May 2022 and January 2023.
Stammet has been paying restitution to Fred Meyer. She had no prior criminal history.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Stacey Borgman prosecuted the case.
