Progress from January through March, 2023

Homelessness has decreased by 31% in Clackamas County this year! This according to Clackamas County’s point-in-time homeless count conducted in January. The decrease is all thanks to our dedicated staff, community-based partners, and the supportive housing services program.

Through March 2023, our supportive housing services program has accomplished these milestones:

Simple bed

616 people placed in housing

House with a lock on it

284 evictions prevented

Apartment complex

139 shelter units in operation

Hand receiving a key

468 people provided with long-term rent assistance

We are also excited to launch a number of new services, recently closing contracts for:

  • rapid rehousing
  • supportive housing case management
  • youth services
  • technical assistance for our nonprofit community-based providers

“We are making sure that our provider partners in the community have what they need to do this work,” says Housing and Community Development Deputy Director Vahid Brown.

$1.9M for youth shelter

One of these new programs is housing and services for youth aged 16-24. $1.9 million is being invested in both urban and rural Clackamas County for youth services that include shelter and transitional housing, housing navigation and placement, rapid rehousing, and supportive housing case management. Services will transition youth experiencing housing instability into permanent housing with either short-term rent assistance until they can stabilize, or long-term rent assistance with case management.

Improved coordinated housing access

Clackamas County’s coordinated housing access and case conferencing systems have also been significantly improved, including increasing the number of staff. What does this mean? For people who need housing, it means that the housing hotline is being answered much more quickly, with a goal to answer calls live, including on evenings and weekends. For housing and homeless outreach workers, it means that our coordinated system to match people to housing is more effective than ever.
