New openings on ABCs: Tourism Development Council and Community Action Board

Clackamas County Commissioners are seeking interested residents to serve on county Advisory Boards and Commissions (ABCs). These ABCs offer residents the opportunity to become very involved in specific activities and the goals of Clackamas County.

Tourism Development Council

The Tourism Development Council (TDC) is seeking to fill two (2) vacancies. The TDC guides tourism programs to enhance the quality of life for residents by optimizing the economic impacts of the tourism industry derived from the County’s Transient Room Tax. The TDC is authorized by County Ordinance to oversee tourism promotion and development in Clackamas County.

Commissioners are looking for one (1) applicant with a current management affiliation with a lodging property located within the county and one (1) with an affiliation with one of tourism’s three pillars: (1) outdoor recreation, (2) agritourism, or (3) cultural/heritage tourism. Those with a broad perspective and strong interest in implementing an energized and comprehensive tourism program for the county will be the preferred candidates. Board members reflect and represent the diverse population and geographic regions of the county.

The TDC currently meets the second Wednesday of the month, 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Meetings are held on zoom and/or in person. In person meetings are held several times a year at locations around the county.

The TDC develops, adopts, and implements, subject to the BCC’s approval, a Tourism Master Plan. Clackamas County as described in the county’s Transient Room Tax Ordinance, approved by voters in 1992. Currently, County TRT collections are approximately $5.7 million annually.

Community Action Board

The Community Action Board (CAB) has three vacancies for representatives of low-income Clackamas County residents, each carrying a three-year term. This nine-member council advises the Clackamas County Community Action Agency (CAA) on ways to: 

  • mobilize resources to benefit disadvantaged individuals and families, maximizing their opportunity for self sufficiency
  • minimize the causes and conditions of poverty 
  • cooperate with other persons and organizations serving low-income communities 
  • advocate for institutional change to reduce the conditions of poverty

CAB conducts business through meetings on the first Wednesday of each month, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., either on Zoom or in the county’s Development Services Building in Oregon City.

The council actively seeks members from all regions of the county, races, ethnicity, sexual orientations, and cultures. Members must reside within the boundaries of Clackamas County.
