Guest Speakers

  • Bob Knorr, Clackamas County Transportation Engineering, BC/Leland/Kamrath Roads Intersection Improvements (need a street light) /Mark Osland from PACE Engineers (hired by Clackamas County and also in attendance), $300k iteration 1. This is a “Rolling Single Lane Closure” event with detours as needed. Design to 03/2026, construction slated for 06/2026. With crash data this performs “better than average” compared to similar intersections. 8,800 travelers per day with most issues during peak traffic. Proposal to iterate starting with - moving the telephone pole, low profile concrete curbs, a concrete apron, rumble strips to calm traffic along fog lines.

    • List of concerns:
      • Signaling at that intersection does not make it clear to other drivers what you are doing, especially SB on BC. Example: Is a right signal mean you are going onto Kamrath or turning onto Leland?
      • Grade differential between BC and Leland/Kamrath hinders line of sight.
      • On NB BC, you stop at the stop sign so you can go onto Leland or Kamrath roads, and people behind will squeeze past to turn onto BC NB, and that causes near misses from people navigating Leland/Kamrath onto NB BC as well as driving into the ditch.
      • Telephone pole is a danger and causes large vehicles to use Korner Park parking lot, to take a right from SB BC onto Leland Road.
      • Illegal signage and vehicles for sale on the NE corner blocks line of sight.
      • People SB on BC going to Kamrath are going at high rates of speed.
      • Visitors don’t understand that if you are NB on BC, you have to stop to go onto Leland and Kamrath. We know there is a sign, but people seem to be confused even still.
      • People park in front of the store in prohibited areas (lined off) which disrupts line of sight coming off Kamrath as you enter BC.
      • If you are on Leland Road trying to get onto BC, large semis park at the Korner Park to eat at the restaurants and you can’t see around them. Causes quite a few near misses.
      • The County working off accident data, especially 2 years old data, is an inaccurate measurement as most accidents are not filed and it doesn’t capture the NOW.
      • Where are pedestrians being considered in this plan? Crosswalks?

    Suggestions:

    • Utilize SW corner BCT parking lot (with their permission) for staging area to help relieve congestion with summer Korner Park activities.
    • Possible early turn onto Leland from SB BC instead of the concrete proposal? (changes type of road, and creates other problems with storm drains etc…)
    • 4-way stop? (excessive congestion promotes people not stopping at all, and doesn’t solve the problem but creates more)
    • What about a conditional stop on SB BC? Where everyone stops unless staying on BC.
    • How about putting in a round about? How much does it cost? (Millions and Korner Park would go away, community knows, but problem with location of store, etc..)
    • Stoplights?
