From filling potholes to painting bridges to paving roads, there is a lot to take care of every day to keep our transportation system running smoothly and safely.
Come to our public open house to meet the people you see all year long repairing our roads, clearing catch basins, making road signs, fixing trucks, plowing snow and so much more. We’re opening the doors to our new facility built to seismic standards on hill of bedrock, a big move up from our previous facility that sat in a flood plain. In this new location we are better positioned than ever to be there when you need us the most: during snow, ice, flooding, wildfires.

On your tour, you can:
- Talk with our staff and see the equipment used to keep roads safe
- Track traffic signal operations in real time
- Get up close with road graders, sweepers, dump trucks with snowplows and much more!
- Touch and see road repair materials like shoulder rock, reflective beads and cold mix asphalt
- Watch videos of maintenance activities in the field
- See how we fix road equipment and other county vehicles
- Learn more about the materials we use to keep roads passable during winter weather
Entertain the kids
Have fun while learning safety! At the open house your kids can:
- Practice safe driving in peddle cars with crossing signs, speed limits and traffic on Safety Street
- Get cool photos in road graders and other equipment with road maintenance and traffic safety staff
- Learn how to direct traffic as a road flagger
- Bring in your bicycle helmet for a safety check
- Take home a reflective wrist band
Learn about summer jobs
Looking for a summer job? Maybe a seasonal job could be the beginning of a fulfilling career like so many on our team! We hire people 18 and older between May and September to help us complete all our maintenance needs.
Seasonal job details include:
- Duties include traffic control (flagging and setting up work zones) and cutting trees and vegetation next to roads
- 40 hours per week, with potential overtime
- Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Work almost exclusively outdoors regardless of weather conditions
